Under the Community Rent Scheme, IYFC leases properties from the private rental market to provide transitional accommodation for individuals on low incomes who are struggling to secure long-term housing. Tenants are referred through the Department of Housing’s social housing register.
The Community Rent Scheme is not intended for emergency accommodation or as a long-term housing solution. Instead, it offers tenants the opportunity to stabilise their circumstances while preparing for more suitable long-term housing—either in the private market or through other social housing programs.
Tenancy planning is a key component of the program, to help tenants identify and address barriers to securing and maintaining stable, long-term accommodation.
