IHR is targeted at people experiencing, or at imminent risk of, homelessness. It includes separate programs for individuals and couples, and for families with dependents.

Support provided may include:

  • Assistance to sustain current accommodation
  • Provision of short-term temporary accommodation (e.g., motel or caravan park)
  • Assistance to address barriers to securing appropriate long-term accommodation

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for support under this program, a person must:

  • Be experiencing homelessness, which is defined as:
    • Sleeping in improvised dwellings or ‘sleeping rough’ (including people sleeping in cars)
    • Living in unsafe or inadequate accommodation (e.g., where sexual or family violence threatens safety)
    • OR be at imminent risk of homelessness, meaning the person will fall into the above definition prior to the next business day
  • Be an individual, couple, or family with dependents
  • Not currently be supported by another Specialist Homelessness Service
  • Have exhausted all other housing options
  • Be over the age of 17 years
  • Currently reside within the Cassowary Coast Region
  • Be willing to engage in ongoing case management
