Innisfail Youth and Family Care Inc. (IYFC) supports low-income households and those experiencing crisis through the provision of safe, secure, and affordable housing. We believe it’s important that people with mobility challenges have access to housing that meets their needs. Many of our properties are fully wheelchair accessible or include disability-friendly features such as:

  • Hobless showers
  • Wider doorways
  • Grabrails

These features help provide tenants with comfortable, high-quality housing that enhances their quality of life and supports self-determination.

Tenants of IYFC housing programs sign a lease and are required to pay rent, which is calculated as:

  • 25% of the household’s assessable income PLUS any Rent Assistance they are eligible for
  • OR market rent (whichever is the lower amount)

Immediate Housing Response (IHR)

IHR is targeted at people experiencing, or at imminent risk of, homelessness. It includes separate programs for individuals and couples, and for families with dependents.

Crisis Accommodation Programs

IYFC’s Crisis Accommodation programs offer semi-supported, short-term accommodation to families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, typically for a duration of three months.

Wet Tropics Community Housing (Community Rent Scheme)

Under the Community Rent Scheme, IYFC leases properties from the private rental market to provide transitional accommodation for individuals on low incomes who are struggling to secure long-term housing.

Cassowary Coast Regional Council Community Housing Portfolio

IYFC manages the Cassowary Coast Regional Council Community Housing Portfolio, which primarily offers long-term accommodation for elderly pensioners.

Long Term Community Housing

IYFC provides sustainable long-term housing for people on the Department of Housing’s social housing register.

Agent for the Department of Housing and Public Works

Innisfail Youth and Family Care Inc. acts as the local agent for the Department of Housing and Public Works.
